Topics
The Ist Congress of the International Academy of
Digital Pathology is a conference that focuses on
the application of digital technology to clinical,
research and education in pathology practice. The
conference will feature speakers from all over the
world who have worked on the integration of digital
technology to pathology practices. This year’s
conference will also feature a forum wherein
progress and issues in the implementation of digital
pathology in developing countries will be discussed.
Also we are planning to have
a session for Developing Countries. We have speakers
who have been supporting Developing Countries and
also some speakers from Developing Countries.

CALL for Short visits to European Countries
EURO-TELEPATH “Telepathology Network in Europe”
The EURO-TELEPATH “Telepathology Network in Europe” is an
initiative of the COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and
Technical Research) agency, supported by the European Commission Research
Framework Programme (FP7).
The EURO-TELEPATH (COST Action IC0604) coordinates of
research efforts to develop the most adequate technological framework
applied to Anatomic Pathology for the management of multimedia electronic
healthcare records (data and images) through the Internet.
The EURO-TELEPATH is supporting the exchange of young
researchers to establish new areas of scientific collaboration or
complementing multidisciplinary publications and research thesis on running
prototypes in visited hospitals, laboratories and institutions. The topic
must be related to digital pathology telepathology, medical informatics,
image analysis, business process modelling, or technology evaluation.
Researchers in IT or medical field (including residents
pre- or postdoctoral researches), that would like to visit some institution
of the participating European countries, can be financially supported by
EURO-TELEPATH (COST Action IC0604), applying to a Short-Term Scientific
Mission (STSM).
The duration of Short-Term Scientific Missions, is
minimum one week (5 working days), maximum 3 months. The grant will cover
travel and subsistence.
Participating countries in EURO-TELEPATH are:
• Croatia
• Cyprus
• Finland
• France
• Germany
• Greece
• Italy
• Lithuania
• Netherlands
• Norway
• Poland
• Portugal
• Serbia
• Spain
• Switzerland
• United Kingdom
Participating non-COST countries:
The application together with the COST Action Management
Committee approval should be ready at least 4 weeks before the mission
starts.

COST Action IC0604 summary:
Coordination of research efforts to develop the most adequate
technological framework for the management of multimedia electronic
healthcare records (data and images) through the Internet. The Action will
consolidate the most renowned research references in the field of
informatics applied to Anatomic Pathology in order to eventually develop,
with support of national and other European programs, the fusion standards
to represent, interpret, browse and retrieve digital medical images while
preserving their diagnostic quality as needed for clinical, learning and
research purposes. In a latter stage, this coordinated research shall bring
about a comprehensive R&D project which will deliver a much needed world
wide search engine based on WebServices. This will definitively open the
path to integration, search, access, exchange and upgrade of digital
pathological images and associated reports among different hospital
information systems regardless of their location. Based on common standards
developed by European Normalization Committee (CEN), the World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C) and other bodies (DICOM, HL7, SNOMED), the direct result of
this Action shall be a new Pathology Technical Framework (IHE Pathology) to
be taken as a new reference standard by the specialized E-health industry as
well as the entire medical community.
Keywords: Image Communication, Electronic health record, Pathology
PACS, JPEG 2000 protocol, IHE initiative.
